Lakshadweep

White beaches, blue lagoons, and India’s only coral atolls; Lakshadweep is a group of islands which is geologically a part of the same chain as the Maldives. What may appear as a few insignificant dots on the map of India is a sparkling jewel adorning India’s south-western frontier. Majority of population here is that of Muslims. The official language of the islands is Malayalam, with few locals speaking Urdu, Arabic, Persian and Hindi.

Travellers love to explore amazing souvenirs selling at flea markets nestled at the beaches. From junk jewelleries to ornamental stuff and useful household items, one can find an array of vibrant items being sold at the markets here.

 

Travellers can also bag tinned tuna, curried canned fish and biscuits, which are quite a rage among the locals.

 

Best time to Visit

The best time to visit Lakshadweep is from September to May when the weather stays pleasant enough to relish sports activities. Travellers can also plan their holidays during the summer season (March to May). The months of Monsoon (June to August) can be difficult for the holidaymakers due to excessive rainfall.

 

How to Reach

By Air - Agatti Aerodrome, the main airport of the islands, is well linked by regular flights to Kochi, an important domestic and international airport of India. 

 

By Sea - Lakshadweep Administration also organises few passenger ships sailing from Kochi to Lakshadweep.
